Hi, I’m Sydne (she/her), a cisgender, neurodivergent, queer, white Settler currently living and working on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ilwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (Vancouver, BC). I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Professional Art Therapist (or, as I prefer, a counselling art therapist). I specialize in supporting adults navigating the effects of complex trauma and abuse by creating a safe, accepting space rooted in empathy, authenticity, and compassion.
Why I became a Counselling Art Therapist
My journey to counselling art therapy began with my two greatest loves in life: human beings and art. I have always enjoyed connecting with people and listening to their stories, and I was privileged, while growing up, to witness the healing that can happen when people find acceptance and hear—perhaps for the first time—that who they are is not wrong. I also have a personal understanding of the healing, supportive nature of the creative process, and I have more than 20 years’ experience working with mixed media and creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual art. Becoming a counselling art therapist was a natural joining of these two loves.

I grew up running barefoot in the forest and thinking the best way to spend a summer day was at the swimming hole in the creek (it still is 😊). These experiences, and many others, gave me a deep respect and love for the natural world— a relationship I continue to nurture and hold dear. A few other things that bring me joy include dancing in the forest under the stars (as well as on crowded dance floors), getting lost in music and making art, curling up with a good book, and enjoying a great cup of coffee or tea and a walk with a friend.
